Greetings and thank you for reading the first ever post from a Volozen! You might think I'm something out of a Star Trek movie but really I'm just a normal person like you and me. My blood is red, my ears are rounded, I speak English (sorta), and I live in Volo, IL - thereby designating me a citizen of Volo - a Volozen. I've been wanting to do this for a while, thanks to a really great blog by the Mayor of Round Lake (our neighbors to the east). Since Volo's village website is nothing but an outdated page of names, I thought this would be a good place to post general information about what's going on in town along with plenty of my own editorial comments.
I thought I'd start things out with some general information about Volo as well as how I ended up here, since even most Chicago residents, city or suburbs, don't know where Volo is. Volo lies approximately 40 miles due north west of downtown Chicago. Volo was incorporated as a Village in 1993, and is still the newest Village incorporated into Lake County, IL. In 2000, the US Census Bureau reported only 180 Volozens but according to the Mayor, the upcoming special census should reflect an increase to about 2,000 Volozens.
I moved to Volo in June, 2006 and live in the Terra Springs subdivision. Acclimating to a more rural living environment has certainly been an adjustment, and I'll be sharing my experiences on this blog as time goes by. I spent the first seven years out of my parents house in the bustling metropolis known as Naperville. In 2003, I got a new job in North Barrington, and the commute from Naperville was brutal. In 2004, I moved to West Dundee to improve my commute and then two years later, bought my first house in Volo, only a quick 15-20 minute drive to the office (much improved from the hour and 20 minutes from Naperville).
I hope that as Volo continues to grow and evolve over time, this blog will as well. Your comments are always welcome although I will admit they will be moderated. Not that I don't think people aren't entitled to their opinion, but I want to make sure that profanity and personal attacks don't creep their way in. Otherwise, feel free to speak your mind. I hope to build a community of Volozens and our neighbors so we can all stay informed!
