Thornton's in Volo?

I don't normally post twice in one day but I was just looking at the agenda from the village board meeting this past Tuesday and it refers to the plan commission public hearing on 3/19. The bullet says "Thornton's PUD" which leads me to believe we could see yet another gas station along Route 12. Goody.

Update 3/17/09 - the agenda for the 3/19 meeting has been posted and I can confirm that this meeting is regarding the addition of a Thornton's gas station and convenience store at the NE corner of 120 and Volo Village Road."

I did like the comment the other day about taking the BP/McD's and making it a Rock 'N Roll McDonald's. I still think my Sonic idea is worthwhile too!

I just read the plan commission agenda for the public hearing on this one.

Why exactly do we need another gas station / convenience store near the Route 12 and Route 120 vicinity? We have BP, Phillips, and now potentially Thornton's all next door to each other?

I hope that the Plan Commission and Village Board think strategically about this and don't give in to the temptation of wanting a new business in town due to the lack of progress on Volo Village Marketplace, elimination of Volo Village Corner Market, etc.

Implement the village plan appropriately or don't implement it at all. Let's not pull a Route 120 Bypass by recommending a very disappointing 4 lane boulevard solution with traffic signals or round abouts in an area where we really need a limited access highway to efficiently move traffic east/west across the county.

However, let's get it right by voting "YES" on April 7th to construct the Route 53extension! Enough of this "lack of consensus" myth because 2 small villages selfishly oppose the overall good of the county and region.
