One Year As A Volozen

On June 3rd, I celebrated my first anniversary as a Volozen. Even a year later, I get picked on for moving so far away, but I think everyone in my life has gotten used to my decision to buy out in the country. My second year will hopefully be filled with progress as I begin turning my not-so-new-anymore townhouse into a townHOME. I thought this would be a good opportunity to share the highlights and lowlights of my past year:

HIGHLIGHTS:
- 4th of July celebration at an Inn on the lake
- pontoon boating on the lake
- 18 minute commute to work (June-April)
- seeing the stars out at night
- the McHenry Outdoor Theatre
- great restaurants on the Fox

LOWLIGHTS:
- promise of more commerce in Volo in 2007 - no ground even broken yet
- 1 hour 18 minute commute to work (since April)
- high taxes
- horrendous traffic in Lake County
- my next door neighbor's cigarette smoke wafting into my house when the window's open
- far from friends
